Luck or hard work
I started off the morning on the right foot, by listening to NPR’s “How I Built This” Podcast. I love that podcast. I mean, who doesn’t want to know how Spanx or SquareSpace (shout out to my website!) or Stacy’s Pita Chips got started. Don’t we all dream of being one of those success stories? However when Guy Raz ends each interview asking those bajillionaires “How much of your success do you attribute to luck, or just hard work”, it makes me want to pull my hair out. Of course it’s both - I mean, that’s how it works right? But the entrepreneur would sound like an a**hole if they said it was only due to their hard work, because of course they aren’t the only ones out there hustling and working hard. I am. You are. But timing/luck/whatever certainly has to play a part and the stars align and voila. Even with that ridiculous question, I still love listening to their stories of how their businesses became who they are. Morning positivity…check!
Since it’s day 1, I thought I would do not one, but TWO positive things for my mind + body. So I went to my first class at the Y in over 6 months. I went to BodyPump and you guys, I probably won’t be able to lift my arms above my head tomorrow to put on my shirt, nor will I be able to squat down and pick up my daughter’s napkin that she will throw on the floor during dinner. BUT, all that soreness will give me the beautiful reminder that I did it. Yes, I had tiny little baby weights on my bar, but they were MY baby weights and I lifted them like a boss. And I definitely lip synched to much of the soundtrack. So, afternoon positivity…check.
